The entwining of Nature and Art is the springboard for my creative process.  I am inspired by how repeated forms combine to make a larger whole from leaves on a tree to the micro world where similar cells combine to make a whole living organism.  My recent sculptures follow this principle of combining similar forms to construct a more complex whole that represents objects in our environment. The white surface of the fired clay becomes a three dimensional canvas for color. I experiment with acrylic, oil paint, and wax to create patterns and add depth to the surface. My approach to construction often includes mixed media that when complete can rest on a flat surface or hang on a wall. What emerges is a sculpture that evokes the feeling of motion through the play of line, curve, color, light and shadow.
